Wood of the Week – Aspen
Aspen is a common name for several species of trees, most of which belong to the Populus class. Aspen is a lighter color softwood, and is exceptionally strong.
The Max Disk Sander
Disk sanders use a wheel, or a disk, that the sanding surface or sandpaper is attached to. Our Max disk sander is used on a daily basis by of our craftsmen. It is a commercial disk sander that is mounted on a large, heavy column and sits on the floor.
Wood of the Week – Cypress
Cypress is a softwood species that is native to the southeastern coast. Though it is a softwood, it grows among and is often processed and sorted with hardwoods. It is a common choice for outdoor projects such as docks, boats, and patio furniture, but also makes for great interior furniture.
The Steff Power Feeders
A power feeder is a machine in itself that pushes stock through another woodworking machine at a consistent speed and pressure, both against the bed and fence of that machine. We have 4 Steff power feeders in our shop.
The Putsch Vertical Panel Saw
A panel saw is any type of saw with a panel or table that can rip or cut materials into any desired size. A vertical panel saw is just that, but with one obvious difference; its panel sits vertically rather than a horizontally. Our Putsch vertical panel saw has three distinct benefits that make it a perfect fit for our shop. It is precise, safe to operate, and takes up little space.
Wood of the Week – Teak
Teak is a tropical hardwood that has fragrant white flowers and large leaves and in genuine form is referred to as “Burmese teak”. Teak has a leathery smell when milled. It is very expensive- perhaps one of the most expensive large size, non-figured lumbers available.
The Casolin Sliding Table Saw
A table saw is a circular saw that is mounted on an arbor under a table, through which the blade protrudes. The main function of a table saw is to hold the saw blade at the desired or necessary angle while the woodworker pushes material through the blade. Our Casolin sliding table saw has a tilting arbor that tilts to 45 degrees, a scoring blade, digital controls, and a 126″ sliding table.
Wood of the Week – Black Ash
Black Ash is a thirsty hardwood that is native to the great lakes region of North America and shares a habitat with tamarack and black spruce. It looks similar to Oak when stained, is comparable to oak in price, and has less chatter than Oak so it often displays a brighter finish.
The Timesavers Wide Belt Sander
A belt sander is a machine with a motor that drives several spindles which rotate a large belt of sandpaper. It is used to shape, sand, and finish a variety of materials – in our case, that material is wood. We purchased our Timesavers sander around the year 2000 and it has been in daily use ever since.
